Destination Wedding Cancun: Day 1

Headed to Cancun for my first destination wedding. My buddy was getting married. Took a red eye flight so that we can get to Cancun at 6 am.

Getting through the airport was a breeze. So headed to the bar for a drink.

Our layover was in Los Angeles. So we had dinner at Campanile before our long flight to Cancun.

Burger with pork belly. It was okay. It's airport food, so I don't expect much.

Steak and Frites. My brother seemed to have liked it.

We arrive to Cancun 45 minutes early. It was still dark. We already had transportation arranged by the destination wedding planner. Lomas Travel provided our transportation and they found us immediately as we exited the airport.

We stayed at Iberostar.

I was sharing a standard room with my brother and it was available at 6 am when we were checking in. My older brother upgraded his room to a Villa. His room wasn't available yet, but he tipped the concierge and magically his room was available.

Our view was obstructed by the roof of the building below us, but for a standard room, the view is pretty nice.

They don't serve alcohol until 10 am. So we raided the fridge.

Headed down to the buffet to meet up with everyone for breakfast.

Fresh juice.

Scrambled eggs, breakfast sausage, calamari, hash browns, linguica.

Assortment of cold meats.

Lots of fresh fruit.

Eggs and omelettes made to order.

Cereal

Baked goods.

The breakfast buffet had a decent offering. It seems that all of the restaurants are only open during dinner.

Activity board with the time schedule for all the events for the day.

The pool grounds at Iberostar is very nice. there are so many pools to choose from.

Since alcohol wasn't served until 10 am. I headed to the room for a nap until the bar opens.

I headed back to the pool at 11 am.

Drinking with the grooms brother Steven and his mom.

One of the pool activities was to see how far you can jump from the inflatable platform.

They also had a high jump competition.

Around this time I kind of started time traveling and don't remember much. I guess we headed back to the room to rest?

and apparently we got room service. Which is open 24 hrs.

Eventually got up and met up with everyone for our dinner reservations.

The groom Linh, had been at an excursion all day. So this was our first time seeing him on the trip.

They had a Hibachi style restaurant at the resort.

The bride Anastasia and her best friend Tanya.

Philadelphia rolls

Tempura appetizer. This was really good, but I don't remember eating it on this day.

I say Sake, you say Bomb!

Tempura banana and ice cream for dessert. Nothing great about it.

We hung out in the lobby for a bit.

At night they have merchants selling souvenirs.

Phat bought at coin that was hand cut on the spot. I guess the guy can do many designs.

We went to check out the sports bar.

Not too busy on a Thursday night.

They had a pool table. So Peter and I challenged Steven and Jarvis.

We won, then some guys from Scotland challenged us. Loser had to drink winner's choice. Challenged accepted.

We lost.. and they sent over triple shots of scotch. Peter and I owned up to our loss, but lots of ragrets will be had... every single letter.

So apparently I got super wasted and threw up all over the beach.

and here Peter is regretting the triple shot. He threw up on the bed.

What a night fun times and that's only day one.
