Trip Report Vancouver (day 3) : Fish cake Vermicelli Soup, Granville Island, Bloedel Conservatory, Nero Belgian Waffle Bar, & Hawksworth

Been gloomy and raining ever since we arrived and the next morning wasn't any different.

Eden and Alison recommended we try Hoang Yen which is known for the dill fish cake vermicelli. So we met up with them and Brandon for brunch.

#24 Special Fish Cake & Vermicelli in Soup. I started eating it before I remembered to snap a pic. It was really good, especially if you like dill, which I do.

After brunch Tammy and I set off to explore the city. It was her first time visiting. Our first stop was Granville Island. We drove to Granville Island cause we had other places to visit, but you also have the option to take the Aquabus to Granville Island they have several docks located around the area.





As you can see from the map, it's sort of like an island with many shops, restaurants, markets, & bars.

Public Market.

On one side of the Public Market it's like a food court.





I've always wanted to try Pierogies ever since I've seen them on T.V, but I was full from brunch.

Perogies are pretty much European dumplings. I've mostly seen them filled with potatoes & cheese, they are boiled then sauteed with butter and served with sour cream. There are many other version of them from savory to sweet.

Tried some locally handmade nuts and chocolates by Bon Mano Bon. It as really good so I brought some home.

There was a vendor that was selling alcohol filled pearls/boba.


The other side of the Public Market is more of like a Farmers Market with more food and merchants.

Took us about an hour or so to skim through Granville Island, but we probably could have spent a lot more time there if we were hungry and stopped by the bars and shops.

After we headed to Queen Elizabeth Park to visit the Conservatory.












The Bloedel Consevatory. Admission was $6.50 cad.














Unfortunately you don't get to interact with any of the birds, but the birds are free to roam where ever they want.











Took us about an hour to skim through the conservatory.




After we headed back to the condo.







We were a bit hungry, so we walked around the area looking for snacks.

Tammy wanted to try Nero Belgian Waffle Bar. There are two locations and lucky for us one of them is located 2 blocks away.






I ended up getting food from Fresh Donair last night after the club.


Frites Fries with Benefits. Tammy has never tried Poutine so we had to get some.

We stopped by a few other places also.

Here's our final snack haul. Frites, Poutine, matcha white chocolate cookie, chocolate croissant, variety of Belgian waffles, & crafted teas.

Eventually it was time for our dinner reservation at Hawksworth Restaurant, located in the Rosewood Hotel Georgia.

Thai lemonade: barnston island cilantro, fresh lime, almond syrup, ginger beer.
Glass straw, I thought it was plastic at first.





Pink Elephant: Absolut vodka, raspberry, rose, lemon, egg white


Foie Gras Parfait: hibiscus, mustard, huckleberry, bacon madeleine. I'm a sucker for foie gras.

Scallop: truffle and leek tortellini, red pepper, beurre crevette.

Yarrow Meadows duck breast: beet, horseradish, chamomile, split jus.

Lobster Tail: squash and mushroom agnolotti, black truffle, hazelnut. I know the lobster is the star of this dish and it was done beautifully, but the agnolotti was just delicious.




Sweet Milk Ice Cream: red fruit, aerated white chocolate, almond. Tasted like a deconstructed strawberry shortcake ice cream bar.


That ends day 3. We head home tomorrow. I regret not staying longer because there were a lot more things we wanted to do and restaurants we wanted to visit.
