Hong Kong & Vietnam Day 3

So Friday morning Eden swung by and picked us up. We were recovering from the night before. So we decided to grab a light brunch and planned to have an easy night.

Here's Eden's car. It's an Audi A5 sedan. The thing is in the states they don't make an A5 in a Sedan. We only have the coupe. I didn't even know an A5 sedan existed. So it was really cool seeing this.

Eden decided that we should have dim sum. It was an awesome idea. The dim sum was better than any other dim sum I had back at home. I thought it was interesting that Diet Coke is labeled Coke Light. I wonder if there is a reason for this?

After dim sum we headed to Eden's place to play some games and just relax. We had a few hours to kill before we met up with Nelson and his wife. Nelson wanted to introduce us to his wife and wanted to have dinner. So while the guys were playing games, Eden and I headed to Hong Kong Disney. Another thing on my bucket list is to visit all the Disney parks. I have only gone to Disneyland so since I was in Hong Kong I might as well visit HK Disney. Eden decided to drive us there. Here are some pictures of our travels.

It was really hot when we were there. It was really uncomfortable. I don't know how people can go to a theme park in this weather. It was really dead at HK Disney. Kind of weird for me since I'm a frequent visitor of Disneyland and it's always busy there.

Well that's two parks down. Only Disney World, Euro Disney, and Japan Disney left. Eden did tell me that Disney is building another park in Shanghai. I guess I'll have to add that to the list once it's completed.

After visiting HK Disney. It was time to head to Mongkok. I wanted to go shopping for some rare toys and I heard that there was a lot to choose from in Mongkok. We took the subway. It was amazingly easy to use. So easy that I wonder why we don't have more of these subway systems like this back in the states.

If you go to Hong Kong you have to visit Mongkok. It was one of the highlights of my trip. There was so much going on in Mongkok. Endless shopping, street food, and sights. Enjoy the pictures and videos of Mongkok.

The streets are closed off to cars cause there are so many people walking around.
snapixel
In the picture below most of these building have multiple shops inside. My best description for Mongkok is a mall of malls. Cause you had all these stores all around, but when you walked into the building it was a building filled with even more stores. It was nuts. We went to like 8 or 9 different toy stores. They even have a sneaker alley where it's filled with nothing but shoe shops.
snapixel
We just happened to see this street stand. They sell noodles in a bag. You choose what meats and sauce you want and they toss it together in a little baggie. It was delicious and cheap.

The displays at the toy shops were just ridiculous. The cool thing about visiting all these toys shops was that each one was slightly different. Some stores would carry vintage transformers, some anime toys, others would carry new released toys, and so much more. I was in heaven. I don't think we even have anything remotely close to this in NorCal. Not even in San Francisco. Maybe L.A though, but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't.

Piranacon. My brother had this set when we were kids. I remember my older brother throwing this toy out the window. I forgot what he did to deserve it, but it's imprinted in my memory and that's how I remember these guys. It was so cool to see that they made a re-release.

I just happened to see this old guy walking with his dog. They dog would wonder into a store and come back out. The owner would just wait for him. So cute.

One of my only complaints is whenever we bought drinks at street carts and some restaurants they weren't ice cold. With how hot it was it was kind disappointing. Cause you're hoping for a nice cold refreshing drink and you end up with a slightly cold drink that warms up quite quickly in this heat.

Street food. Some skewered meats and fresh squeezed OJ.

After a bit of shopping Eden had some other things to do so we ventured off with Nelson and his wife for dinner. They took us to the old style HK dinning. We were eating outside under a plastic tent. At dinner Doris's friends joined us.

We started off with some fried squid.
snapixel
followed by some garlic Mantis Prawns.
snapixel
Then some innards for son, and goose.
snapixel
then some roasted pork and duck. I cannot tell you how perfect the skin was on the pork. It was light and crispy. Yet again better than anything I have ever had back at home.

After dinner we walked off the food back shopping in the street markets.

After we were done with that Doris and her friends wanted to take us to a bar near our hotel for some drinks. We planned to have an easy night, but we couldn't turn this offer from our friend's wife.

Brandon, Joann's husband (sorry forgot his name) Joann, Doris and Nelson.

This is the last picture of the night, but I do suggest you read the story below. snapixel
So we were playing some drinking games and get pretty buzzed. During the night Doris asked Son and I if we could get Nelson wasted because she has never seen him wasted before and since we were visiting it might be a good opportunity for it. So we said sure. We played some more drinking games, but we just couldn't get Nelson to lose enough, but Doris was loosing quite a bit. So after a while Doris decided to challenge Son to drinks. Now if you know Son like I do he will drink himself dead if he could and he's very competitive when it comes to drinking. He will never turn down a challenge especially if he's drunk. Here is our conversation:

Doris: I challenge you Son.
Son: Why are you challenging me?
Doris: Cause you're his best friend.
(I had to but in at this point)
Me: What do you mean best friend? What about me?
Doris: I challenge you too.

(back in the states I kept hearing that people in China can really drink. So at this point I'm thinking in my head. One she can either really drink or two she is really drunk. We were leaving for Macau the next morning and I didn't want to wake up wasted, but I didn't want to turn down a challenge especially from a girl. I decided to turn down the challenge. At this point son turns to me and says I'm going to do this. I know Son is pretty buzzed. So I tried to reason with him)

Son: I'm so going to do this.
Me: Are you sure you want to do this?
Son: Yeah why not?
Me: Because it's Nelson's wife and this will probably not be the best impression to give upon meeting her for the first time.
Son: It's Nelson's wife that's I want to do this even more.
Brandon: Don't be a pussy.
Son: Challenge accepted.

(Son and Dorris were drinking Chivas and club soda. So while they were drinking. Brandon, Joann and I were having a conversation about California and stuff back at home. After a while we see Son is looking like he's about to pass out)

Brandon: Hey look at Son.
Me: Crap, but look at Doris.
(at this point I noticed Doris is sitting with her head back like she is sleeping, but all of a sudden she just yacks all over the floor. I was like Oh...F*ck. Nelson gets out of the both to take care of his wife, but it doesn't stop there. After she finishes throwing up she starts crying. I was really thinking about taking a picture, but I thought it was probably not the most appropriate thing to do at this point.)

Brandon: Hey is she crying?
Me: yup
Brandon: I don't deal well with crying.
Me: me neither.
Joann: So..... about California.

At this point it was the most awkward conversation ever. I noticed Son was about to pass out. So we decided we should leave early and take Son back to the hotel while he can still walk. Nelson is consoling his wife. So as I'm getting out of the both Doris is still balling and then she calls out to me. I just freeze. I'm like omg don't call out to me. I don't know how to deal with this situation. Nelson whispers to me it's ok she drunk. I told him I'm just going to sneak out and pretend I didnt' here her. So we snuck out and took Son back.

So what did I learn? Doris is going to hate us for all eternity, but U.S 1 Hong Kong 0.
