Hawaii Dec 2019 trip report day 3: Banyan Breeze Coffee, Kahala Beach, Hula Dog, Baikohken, Genius Lounge

For breakfast, we grabbed some food from the Banyan Breeze Coffee Co. which is located on the first floor of our building.

The serve Dole Whip here.

Got an egg salad sandwich on a croissant and it was really good.

Cold-brew coffee.

Today was Phat's 40th birthday and he wanted to hang out with everyone at the beach. He woke up early and grabbed a nice spot at Kahala Beach.

Phillip's friend Chris set Phat up with a lot of food.

Fried chicken

Beef Stew

Lau Lau: Kalua pork with butterfish wrapped in taro leaves.

Phillip did an impromptu proposal to Jensen on the beach!

Some of us left the beach around 3 pm. My parents just arrived that morning so I wanted to check them into their hotel so that they could get some rest.

After dropping my parents off at their hotel. We stopped by Hula Dog on our way back to our hotel. The location back at home has since closed. So I've been craving one for a while. I think the only other place you can get one is a food truck in Houston Texas.

1: Pick your bread: white, wheat, bacon taro
2: Polish sausage or veggie dog
3: Pick a garlic lemon sauce: original (mild) jalapeno (spicy) chili pepper (hot) habanero (hot-hot)
4: Pick your tropical relish: pineapple, mango, banana, coconut, papaya, star fruit
5: Pick a Hawaiian Mustard: Lilikoi (tangy) Guava (sweet)

The end result. They toast the bread on a skewer so it's crispy on the inside and they stuff all the goodies in the center.

Also got the strawberry lemonade, which wasn't that good , but the Hula Dog was great.

We rested at our rental until dinner time.

I wanted to get some ramen so we headed back to Yokocho since they had several ramen options.
I ended up at Baikohken. The only reason that I chose this place was that they advertised that they were on the Michelin Guide which is a bit deceiving because their location in Hokkaido was mention in the Michelin Guide as best of Asahikawa Ramen Grand Prize selected by citizens.

Chashu Ramen.

Butter corn ramen.

Spicy Chashu ramen. The ramen was very disappointing. I do not recommend this place. Not even sure how they even got mentioned on the Michelin Guide.

After dinner the groups scattered. We were supposed to go to a Korean bar, but Phat was really tired from day drinking. So some went back to their hotel and some of us wen out.

We ended up at Genius Lounge.

We had a few drinks and then Tammy and I headed back to our rental for the night.

That's it for day 3. Pretty mellow night.
