Hawaii Dec 2019 trip report day 1: Rainbow Drive-In, Musubi Cafe, Duke's Waikiki, Cuckoo Coconuts

Headed to Oahu to celebrate my brother's 40th birthday.

We got to the airport at 5 am and went to check out the airport lounge.

It was our first time visiting an airport lounge. I don't know why I haven't done this sooner.
Complimentary coffee and beverages.

Complimentary snacks.

Yogurt parfait.

The lounge opens at 5 am, but the bar doesn't start serving until 6 am. The alcoholic beverages are complimentary also. I thought maybe it was bottom-shelf liquor, but for Vodka they were offering Tito's.

We only got to enjoy the bar for 15 minutes before we had to board our flight.

It was our first time visiting Hawaii in December. The weather was perfect. Low humidity and 81 degrees all week.

We got our rental and headed to our Airbnb. They let us check in early, which was nice because we landed around 10:30 am.

Our condo was awesome and located one block from the beach. We were staying at Waikiki Banyan. You can find the condo listing here.

After we settled in we headed to Rainbow Drive-In. It was our buddy Viet's first time visiting Hawaii so we had to show him some of our favorite grub spots.

We took our food to-go and headed back to the condo. Phillip and I headed out to get some liquor and snacks for our place.

I've never seen POG Icee before.

Mix plate: BBQ Beef, boneless chicken, Mahi Mahi.

Portuguese sausage and eggs.

Spaghetti and Weiner plate.

Loco Moco

Spam and egg sandwich.

Spam and eggs w/ side of gravy. If you haven't been to Rainbow Drive-In, do your tastebuds a favor and stop by. Its such good comfort food and it's so cheap.

There a tennis/basketball court, pool, hot tubs, playground, and gas grill available for the guest.

We were the first ones to arrive in Hawaii. So we hung out and played overcook while we waited for everyone else to arrive.

Pre-game drinks.

We stopped by Musubi Cafe Iyasume for some light snacks. They make the best musubi. I don't know what they do to their rice, but it's so good.

Spam, egg, & tofu.

Tuna mayo riceball.

We met up with everyone at their hotel Ohana East.

More drinks!

On our way out ran into a guy with some awesome sandals? slippas? idk, but they were neat.

There were a lot of people that came out for the trip, but everyone was scattered all over Waikiki. So we had everyone meet us at Duke's.

You can never have too much alcohol!.. well actually you can. Drink responsibly.

Duke's has a nice beachfront location.

Yup, we are still drinking.

Duke's has a two drink limit per customer and we hit our limit. So we left in search of the next bar.

Tammy and I walked passed Cuckoo Coconuts on our previous trip and I really wanted to visit. So I steered the group to Cuckoo Coconuts.

They had a band that was playing 80's and 90's cover songs. The band played until 10 pm, but the bar is open until midnight.

The drinks were pretty cheap here. I think Tito's was $6.

Real Pina Colada served in a pineapple. They also have a drink called Loco Coco that is served in a coconut.

Shots with POG chase.

Viet even met a girl on the trip and got a little action. LOL.

Found a 24hrs McDonalds for drunk late-night eats on our walk back to the condo.

That ends day 1. The trip is off to a good start.
