Oahu Hawaii Day 3: Musubi Cafe, Lanikai Beach, Growler Hawaii, Tonkatsu Tamafuji, Island Vintage Shave Ice

Anh & Anna woke up early and hiked Diamond Head
While they were hiking we went to Musubi Cafe to pick up food for the beach.
We had originally planned to meet Anh & Anna at Hanauma Bay but their rideshare driver informed them that it is by reservation. We tried booking reservations as we were driving there but they were all booked. So we changed our plans to visit Lanikai Beach instead.

Anh & Anna got dropped off at Hanauma Bay so we headed there to pick them up. When they got dropped off the attendant informed them that they had walk-in tickets available. Since John was already on the way to Lanikai we stuck with our alternative plan.

On the way, we saw a school or daycare having a snow day.
We used to be able to park in the neighborhood when we visited Lanikai but the neighborhood parking has since been all blocked off. We dropped off everyone at the beach and we went back in search of parking.
We had to park about 1/2 a mile from where we dropped everyone off.
Beef bowl w/ egg & Spicy minced fried chicken w/ mayo bowl.
We spent several hours at Lanikai and headed back to Waikiki when it was time for our early dinner reservation at Tonkatsu Tamafuji.

There was plenty of street parking but we need coins for the meter. So we hopped into Growler Hawaii to grab a beer and to get change.
If you like craft beers this is the place for you.
We had a drink then headed to our reservation. Reservations are highly recommended. I made reservations about 2 months in advance and the best time I could get was Friday 4pm. You can make reservations here.
We continued our day drinking.
You have a choice of 3 types of rice.
Hokkaido brand Nanatsuboshi with gloss and sweetness of rice
Seasoned mixed rice
5-grain rice

I chose seasoned mixed rice which was good, but John was right when he said white rice is better.
I have dined here a few years ago. I went with the cheese katsu set which wasn't fond of. I didn't think the cheese went well with the katsu.

This time I went with the classic Jyujusei (aged) Pork Loin Katsu Teishoku and it was amazing. It was so tender and not chewy at all. I can see why John loves this place so much. Quality was better than Ginza and cheaper too.
We also ordered the 5 PC shrimp katsu which was also really good.
Jayceon saw me taking pics of our meal and insisted I take a pic of his.
Viet was having a good old time drinking.
and then he immediately passed out when we got back.
Tammy also was out for the count. I headed to John and Robyn's condo for more drinks.
The kids decided they wanted shaved ice so we went and woke everyone up and headed down the Waikiki strip.

On our walk, Jaylyn pointed out the things I should snap pics of. They were mostly water features.
Our usual Shaved Ice spot was Waiola Shave Ice. Tammy introduced me to Island Vintage Shave Ice which is part of Island Vintage Coffee. I was skeptical when she mentioned it but it's really good and our new go-to spot for shaved ice.
Last time we had Pink Island but this time we decided to try something different.

Green Island: matcha green tea, yuzu, frozen yogurt, azuki beans. homemade mochi, and condensed milk. It was good but I still think Pink Island is better.
Organic soft ice cream w/ honeycomb. John said he liked it.
While we were enjoying our dessert a guy had a pair of tamed rabbits and he let Jaylyn hold them.

That's it for day 3.

Tomorrow we head to KCC Farmers Market and we have dinner reservations at Senia.
