Trip Report: Oahu day 7: The Veranda

Packed our things to get ready to head home.

Went for breakfast at The Veranda.

Egg white omelet.

Tahitian Vanilla French Toast with whipped kiawe white honey butter.

It was very breezy this morning.

After breakfast he hung out at the beach as long as we could before heading to the airport.

Upon leaving, we couldn't find our rental car. Found out the hotel/parking attendant had it towed last night for no parking pass on display. FML. Not the best way to end a vacation.

But that ends this trip.

Where to next? Looks like it might be Seattle, we'll see.

Trip Report: Oahu day 6: Honolulu Zoo, The Pig and The Lady, Makapu'u Point Lighthouse Trail, Sandy Beach, Me BBQ

Never realized how close the Honolulu Zoo was to Waikiki. Thought we would visit since we didn't have anything to do.

Admission was $19. We were there at opening time.

Vulture

Lemurs

Monitor lizard

Orangutan

Penguin feeding.

Lions

Baboon

Fennec Fox sleeping in it's box. Wished it was awake.

This Prairie Dog had the best habitat. It had a Christmas tree, Trailer, and a bunch of other things.

Wild Dogs

Tiger

We skimmed through all of the exhibits. Took us about 2 hours and hardly anyone was there. It was an okay city zoo.

We went to The Pig and The Lady for lunch. They were also at the KCC Farmers Market, but we skipped them knowing that we would visit the restaurant.

LFC Wings: twice fried, kaffir lime, shallots, money $$$auce. These were pretty good.

Hanoi Style Egg Coffee: kona dark roast, whipped egg yolk with vanilla bean. I was really looking forward to having this when I found out about it and it was just as good if not better than I anticipated. I would go just to get this coffee.

Pho French Dip Banh Mi: 12 hour roasted brisket, spicy hoisin BBQ sauce, thai basil chimichurri, tomato confit, fried shallots, scallions & sawtooth herbs, calamansi & pickled chili + ginger.

I grew up eating Vietnamese food. I remember Vietnamese Banh Mi were a buck growing up in the Bay Area. So I wasn't sure what I was expecting when I ordered this. It was like eating pho but as a sandwich and it was done very well.

Mkaweli Beef Pho: spiced beef borth with fresh rice noodles, grassfed beef sirloin, scallion & sawtooth herb, black pepper, calamansi, pickled chili + ginger.

The Pho was served as is without any side veggie or condiments other than a bottle of Siracha that was already at the table. Tammy did enjoy it though.

How our check was delivered.

After we went for a hike at Makapu'u Point Lighthouse Trail which is a pretty easy hike.

This is as close as she would get to the edge cause she's afraid of heights.

After our hike we headed to Sandy Beach

When the sun started to set we headed back and got dinner at Me BBQ. It's cash only.

The lunch plate comes with two scoops of rice and on top of that you get to choose 4 more sides. It was a lot of food. The food was good. The lady who you order from can come off as really rude, but I didn't mind. This place was a little Hawaiian and Korean.

Chicken Katsu, 2 scoops rice, 2 scoops mac salad, Gamjajorim (potato & soy sauce), Spicy Korean cucumber salad.

Short Ribs, 2 rice, 2 mac, salad, kimchi

That's it for day 6. It's time to head home. The day that we always dread.
